I Ordered Prescription Glasses Online and This is What Happened

I’ve had the same pair of glasses for over four years, so you could say I’ve been overdue for something new. But as a recent college graduate, I was not in the market to be paying $400 for a nice pair of frames (let alone prescription lenses). When I heard about EyeBuyDirect, I was happy to find out I could afford a new pair on a recent college graduate budget.

EyeBuyDirect is one of the many online glasses sellers you may have seen through social media and other online advertisements. They offer hundreds of frame for a fraction of what you would pay for glasses in the store (some as low as $6) and if you aren’t happy with your frames, even if you simply don’t like how they look, you can return them for a full refund free of charge.

I thought this would be too good to be true, but here I am a few weeks down the road from ordering a new pair of prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses with a full refund on the pairs I didn’t like (including the cost of the prescription lenses).

The site was running a buy one, get one deal so I decided to splurge on prescription sunglasses as well.

What I Did

I started by searching for a pair of prescription glasses. I wanted frames that were going to be larger and show more of my eye. The sight has instructions on how to find frames that will fit your face and a virtual try on option so you can get an idea of what each pair looks like using a picture of yourself. Once you find a pair you like, you simply put in your prescription and choose the type of lenses you’d like (single vision distance, transition, digital screen protection, etc.).

What I Got

Eyeglasses: $50.95

Frame: Berkeley

Size: Small

Lens details:

  • Use For: Single vision distance
  • Color: Clear
  • Bundle: Most Popular Lenses
  • Thickness: 1.59 index
  • Coating: Anti-glare
  • Options: UV protection

Case: Nolita-Powdered Rose ($5)

I wanted to stick with black frames for my eyeglasses because I knew they would match whatever I was wearing. I also wanted to go with a pair that was stylish but also professional so I could wear them casually or for business.

Sunglasses: $70.95

Frame: St Michel

Size: Medium

Lens details:

  • Use For: Single vision distance
  • Color: Mirrored – Silver
  • Bundle: Basic Lenses
  • Thickness: 1.5 index
  • Coating: Anti-glare
  • Options: UV protection

Case: Wythe-Chestnut ($5)

For my sunglasses, I saw quite a few frames that mimicked non-prescription pairs I already owned. EyeBuyDirect has the awesome option of picking any pair of frames, even if they’re under the eyeglasses category and are not designated sunglasses, and allowing you to choose lenses that will make them sunglasses. I really wanted mirror lenses ($29) which were a little more expensive than their basic gradient ($4), but a worthwhile expense in my opinion (and still way less than getting them at an eyeglasses store).

The Return Process

I ordered 3 other frames that I was on the fence about for my everyday glasses. I wasn’t a fan about how they looked on me and simply emailed their customer service to get a return label. EyeBuyDirect has a 14 day refund or exchange policy that they upheld to. They offered me additional discounts at first if I was willing to exchange my glasses for alternate pairs, but when I said I would rather just have a full refund they gave me no issues. I was able to ship them out and get my money back within a week.

What I Think

I’m absolutely in love with my new glasses and will likely be ordering from EyeBuyDirect again. They offer quality frames, are super affordable and have great customer service. It took about two weeks for my glasses to arrive (which felt like forever because I was so excited) but it was totally worth it!

Ordering prescription glasses online = success!
