That Time I Went to an Abandoned Gingerbread Castle

This summer has been all about me finding new places to adventure around my home state, New Jersey. I think we often don’t realize that there are so many adventures to be found not too far from where we are, we just have to look in the right places. Yesterday I decided to make my way to Hamburg and visit an abandoned Gingerbread Castle that used to be part of an amusement park. I found out about the castle on Instagram and it being about 40 minutes away from me meant that I had to check it out for myself (after all, it’s a Gingerbread Castle!).

It truly did not disappoint. After finding our way inside, my friend who accompanied me on this endeavor and I found photography heaven. Sure, there was plenty of glass on the floor and plenty of sketchy stair cases and doorways, but the graffiti and objects that were left inside this Gingerbread Castle was seriously too perfect to not take advantage of.

How lucky am I to have friends that love taking pictures and make me look 10x (if not more) cooler than I actually am?!

Hopefully you enjoy some of these pictures and the next time you’re around Hamburg you check it out! While it certainty isn’t one of the safest places to stop by, it’s definitely one of those “you have to go once” places. After all, how many people can say they’ve been inside a Gingerbread Castle?

Know of any other cool places around NJ? Let me know! I’d love to visit.

    1. Exactly! It’s definitely something that we should be taking advantage of. I think we get so caught up in the idea that better things are “elsewhere” when there are hidden treasures right around the corner!
