Pool Day Necessities

Now that summer is officially in full swing (thank you, 90 degree weather) a pool day essentials post is overdue! There is nothing I love more than going to the pool on a hot summer day when I can’t make it all the way down the shore. The best part is unlike going to the beach, I don’t have to make a day out of getting a tan and enjoying the water.

Being tan is debatably one of my favorite things about summer. Personally, I like the way that I look tan better than when I am pale. I think that my skin looks clearer and overall has less noticeable imperfections. When I have an event in the winter I always opt for getting either an airbrush tan or using a sunless tanner (my favorite being Loving Tan). Since I workout everyday, sunless tanning isn’t a logical everyday solution to my love for being tan as it would fade and get blotchy unreasonably fast with my gym routine. To make up for it, I make sure to have a skincare routine for the pool (and beach) that allows me to get my glow but also protect my skin from the suns rays.

I do wear foundation to the pool. I don’t mind not wearing makeup, but I like that my foundation has an SPF in it and that I don’t have to worry about applying sunscreen to my face because it is all too easy to forget to do so. I use Rimmel’s Lasting Finish foundation which has SPF 20.

On my body, I love Banana Boat’s products. I use their dark tanning oil and their dry oil tanning sunscreen. I apply both all over my body and focus the sunscreen in particular on my shoulders and tattoo. My shoulders are the part of my body that tends to burn quicker and I make sure to apply extra protection to my tattoo since the sun fades the ink.

The key to getting tan but also taking care of your skin is reapplying your sunscreen. I try to reapply every half hour but every hour if I’m not as consistent. While it may take a little longer for you to get some color, this is what I find to be a healthier way to get that summer glow.

My other pool day essentials include:

  • Bottle of water
  • Protein bar
  • Headphones
  • A good book
  • Shades
  • Lip balm
  • Towel
  • Flip flops

Happy swimming!

xoxo Nic
